I decided to re read the first chapter which discussed the role and purpose of what “they say” in your paper. It recommended to make sure the summary that comes after the introduction of that other say, is short and only includes vital information. You do not want readers to be thinking “why is he/she going on like this?”. Another recommendation was to use the templates for introducing what “they say” which provide more context. I tend to use a lot of transition words throughout my papers and just introduce another view with something similar to “____ shares…” or “____ believes that…”. However, after reading through the templates provided, I realize that by incorporating some of them could create a more interesting or intriguing piece. Also, I feel as though it makes you sound more professional as you use more sophisticated language. Lastly, it mentions to keep reminding your reader of the claim you are referring to. I do not think this has to be directly, rather just make sure that what the paragraph goes on to discuss as well as the quote are both relevant in either challenging or supporting your claim. In my paper, I plan to revisit my quotes or where I introduce what “they say”. In these areas, I will work with the templates in the book to enhance the introduction of what others say. Hopefully this will make my essay less repetitive/ boring. Also, I will look at my summaries of what “they say” and make sure they are to the point so I do not lose the readers attention.
