Presenting Change

Now, the final step was to post our final version of the podcast to YouTube. Prior to this, we received feedback from the professor and group members, then made any changes necessary in order to disseminate the best version of our project. Although the podcast has not been posted for a long period of time, we will continue to evaluate it by looking at the YouTube views, comments and likes. The amount of views will serve as an estimate of the impact it has had and the amount of people it has reached. There is also the opportunity for viewers to like and comment so it will be interesting to see if we receive any as time goes on. So far, there are 15 views.

This project taught me a lot in many aspects. We had to work with a group of fellow students who we did not get the option to choose. This brought up some worries since not everyone has the same work ethic and that can lead to difficulties. However, it was good practice for working with all kinds of people since that is key with nursing. I learned more about the impacts of prolonged stays in hospitals but also made aware of the different perspectives the nurses had on it. After doing research and collecting more information, we realized that there are a lot more factors when dealing with unnecessary prolonged length of stay. As a group, we worked on generating a podcast which was new for a lot of us and definitely a challenge. In the end, we got our point across and included first hand experience from nurses who see these issues everyday at work, which I really liked. In the end, we worked well together, were enthusiastic about creating a podcast and have presented a quality project that can be viewed years from now. This was one benefit of creating a podcast that I liked because now it will be on YouTube indefinitely so years from now, new nurses or even seasoned nurses may still be listening to it.

I am proud of the project we have put forth and therefore am confident in a future employer seeing it. I have always enjoyed working with teams and feel that I step up as a leader. I do well with reminding team members of due dates and keeping us on track with the steps of the project. I hope when others view this, they understand the impact of quality improvement and evidence based initiative in the healthcare field and how I support that. We made the nurses and staff on R2 aware of the podcast and encouraged them to listen to it. We hope it is shared with friends of theirs, fellow nurses on different floors or different hospitals so that it can reach the most number of people possible. This is an issue that is occurring hospital wide and does not have an end date so we hope to continue to educate and shed light on the issue through our podcast.

  1. Great work! I love the topic your team picked and how you included first hand experience from nurses in your podcast. I like how your group chose to do a podcast because you made a great point on how it will always be around and how healthcare professionals can have access to it at any time.

  2. This podcast was great! I absolutely loved how you guys asked the nurses directly about their opinions. it was interesting to see their reasoning for prolonged stays and I think many healthcare workers can agree with them. It was such a different take to this project that I never would have even thought to do. It is great that so many people can have access to this project because it is on YouTube.
