Final Reflection

Throughout the process of this team project that entailed writing an influence paper, I have learned a plethora of information. I have learned more about CAUTIs and, even though we did not answer our PICOT question completely, we learned a lot about all the factors and ways they are testing to try to decrease CAUTI rates. I have learned the process, step by step of putting together an influence paper. Completing the assignment this way was a lot less intimidating as we were not thrown into such a large project. We were able to learn through other examples in class and then carry the knowledge over to our own paper. I learned so much about the importance of evidence based practice which plays a big role in healthcare. From learning how to choose relevant, reliable studies to determining the significance of their findings and how to interpret it. As a nurse, my education will continue as procedures and information are constantly changing and it is crucial we stay up to date with these new practices as they could help eliminate, for example, CAUTIs and allow us to better educate the community and our patients. Lastly, I have learned more about working with others and how to make it flow as smoothly as possible. Being able to agree upon things but also kindly suggest changes is important. In addition, in this type of situation, it is key to find others who will put in the effort and have similar goals as you. I have never struggled working in groups and I actually enjoy it because it provides the opportunity to hear different views and opinions on the subject at hand. Throughout this experience, I would say each of us were “leaders” in the sense that we all checked in, met promptly to work on each part, reminded each other of due dates, did not leave the work for other team members to complete and overall were just on top of the assignments. Being able to work with others is important no matter what profession you go into but nursing especially. A huge part of nursing is conversing with other health care professionals whether that is the pharmacy, social worker, therapists, doctors or other nurses. This project was different from other classes, and challenged us in a different way but overall was a great learning experience in many different aspects and each can be carried into our professions as nurses.
